At Hot Pyjama Productions we value professionalism and integrity above everything else. We’re a company you can trust. We’re committed to providing our clients with the highest possible standard of service and advice, and this includes straight talking, if necessary. But we’re also committed to listening carefully to our clients before starting any project, to ensure you get the best possible design solution for your needs.

Once we begin a project, we always honour our commitment to complete it to the highest possible standard. We will never let a client walk away with a design they are not 100% happy with.

We treat all our clients with professional respect and courtesy.

Environmental and social values

Hot Pyjama Productions is commited to environmental
and social values.

This sets us apart from many other businesses, which focus purely on financial objectives. Our motivation is to have less of an impact on the environment than some of our competitors or fellow businesses.

We’ve developed strong connections with organisations like The Natural Step (TNS) and the Sustainable Business Network. We believe in triple bottom line accountability, economic, social and environmental.

But we know that to be a truly sustainable business in our industry, we need to do more than just print on recycled paper. Using the tools and principles of The Natural Step gained through our participation in the inaugural TNS small business programme, we constantly review how we conduct our business - right through the supply chain to our end product and beyond.

We aim to minimise our use of non-renewable resources and man-made substances that don’t breakdown in nature, reduce our impact on the environment with particular attention to waste minimisation, and ensure what we purchase and produce in such a way that minimises any social impact.

Winner of the 2002 Business Resource Efficiency Award

In 2002 Hot PJ was announced joint winner of the Target Zero Special Award for Business Resource Efficiency, presented in conjunction with Landcare Research, Environment Canterbury, EECA and the Christchurch City Council.

The aim of the Canterbury Resource Management Awards is to promote sustainable management of natural and man-made (for example: roads, bridges and ports) resources in the Canterbury region by recognising and rewarding activities that maintain resources for future generations.

The Target Zero Special award focussed on waste minimisation, energy conservation and staff training on environmental management.

Using The Natural Step framework, Hot PJ had been able to significantly reduce our use of resources; notably energy, paper and fuel. Simple exercises like switching off the hot water cylinder and boiling the jug for hot water had saved an estimated $500 per year.

Target Zero performed a lighting assessment which showed we were over lit for our requirements. The Hot PJ team cleaned all the lights to improve efficiency and removed 12 florescent tubes throughout the office resulting in more savings.

Paper is 'mined' from within the office. We discovered an abundance of paper stored in old job bags that could be reused internally.

As a company at the cutting edge of technology, Hot PJ is big user of the internet for communicating with clients and suppliers. We email proofs and artwork where possible. It not only cuts down on paper and couriers, but it also speeds the whole process up and reduces the cost to our clients.

Hot PJ Tree Planting Project

One large tree can provide a days oxygen for up to four people.

In 2003 we began our ‘tree value’ project, aimed at repaying the environment for the resources we use, particularly paper.

On every job we calculate how many trees it took to print it. Every six months we add these up and buy native seedlings from Trees for Canterbury, which we donate to a community replanting project. We have donated over 300 trees to projects such as Bexley Wetland, Willowbank and the Waihora Ellesmere Trust.

It is our way of saying thanks for the natural resources we take so much for granted.

We are proud to have carried out sponsored work on a number of not-for-profit projects. We also enjoy providing creative communication solutions for a growing number of commercial clients with an environmental and/or social focus.
